No fluff, no 10-step routine — just 3 products that helped calm, clear, and reset the skin.
Over the years, I’ve helped a lot of people figure out what works for their skin — whether they were using prescription treatments for acne or just trying to build a simple, no-fuss routine. What consistently worked wasn’t a shelf full of products. It was this: a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum, and a solid SPF.
This three-product routine helped calm breakouts, reduce redness, and make skin less reactive to stress, food, or environmental triggers. And it worked just as well for people with no major skin issues, too.
When the skin feels out of balance or overloaded, these are the three products I always come back to.
When the skin is overstimulated with too many ingredients, too many steps, or constant switching, it reacts. And often, it takes weeks to settle down.
What worked best for us was scaling back to just three products that:
This approach helped reduce breakouts, calmed visible irritation, and made skin less reactive to things like stress, food, and environmental triggers.
CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
This one’s a staple for a reason. It’s fragrance-free, non-stripping, and contains ceramides and niacinamide, which help strengthen the skin while it cleans.
It rinses clean without leaving skin tight or squeaky. If your skin is oily, combo, or breakout-prone, this is a great starting point.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
No frills, just hydration that actually sinks in. This serum helps attract water into the skin and keep it there, which is key when you’re trying to heal or prevent irritation.
Use it on damp skin, then follow with moisturizer or SPF. If you’re sensitive to hyaluronic acid, you can swap this out for a niacinamide serum or something oat-based.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with SPF 30
This is where things really changed. Daily sunscreen made the biggest difference in how skin looked and felt over time, especially with pigmentation and sensitivity.
This one feels more like a moisturizer than a traditional sunscreen. It contains ceramides and prebiotics to support the skin barrier, layers well under makeup, and doesn’t leave a cast on most skin tones.
Sometimes, less really is more. These three products helped simplify things, reset the skin, and finally bring real results.
If your skin is acting up, try going back to basics. Give it a few weeks with just the essentials. You might be surprised how much calmer, clearer, and healthier your skin starts to feel.
